The weekend was a total success, thank you to everyone who attended and also a big thank you to the organising committee and Mervyn and Margaret Cloake for their hospitality.
The New Zealand descendants are organising a family reunion Timaru, over Easter April 2007. Descendants of these families and their English relations are all invited to this reunion during Easter 2007
News Update: First registrations have rolled in from Cornwall, England: It is going to be so special to meet our Couling relations: Zena Jones and Phyllis Wedlake from Callington and St Austal. They will have stories and photos to share. Richard Brabyn is coming from Turo and will also represent his parents Andrew and Jenny. He will be bringing with him research on the war careers of his ancestors including JW Harper.
Others would very much like to join us but distance intervenes. Thanks to modern technology and the internet everyone can be part of the reunion. We will be recording the event and updating this website. We hope this will transform into a family history which can be computer printed - saving publishing costs.

New Zealand Immigrants
Two Cloake brothers, three Couling sisters with various spouses came from Cornwall to live in New Zealand early last century.
Bertie Cloake and Sarah Couling married and with their first child Mary immigrated, followed later by Bertie’s younger brother Arthur and future wife Alma Chubb. Shortly after, Sarah’s sisters Annie, Emmy and husband Bill Harper arrived.
Descendants of these families and their English relations are all invited to a relaxed and informal reunion for two days during Easter 2007.
The Reunion
Reunion Venue
The reunion will be based at Mervyn and Margaret Cloake’s home: 311 Fairview Rd., Timaru.
Limited camping sites & facilities are available by prior arrangement and everyone is welcome to join in the breakfasts in the marquee. A BBQ facility will be available and toast and spreads will be provided. Coffee and tea making facilities will be available at all times but please bring your own refreshments.
Memorabilia & Family Tree Displays
Display boards and lockable cabinets will be available indoors if you wish to display photographs, documents, personal items etc. Slide, movie and digital projectors etc.. can be made available. The family tree will also be available on computer for browsing and updating. Prior submissions to the family history can be made using the Family Group record forms available from here for printing or here for an editiable version
Written material is being prepared on the families. This and other information gathered during the reunion will be compiled for distribution afterwards. A small charge may apply.
Registration:
To assist planning please register before 28 Feb 2007 by completing the accompanying form and returning it to Cloake-Couling Family Reunion, PO Box 779 Timaru, New Zealand. Additional forms are available on the website: family.cloake.co.nz. Payments in New Zealand can be made by direct credit to 020888 0257705 97 or by enclosing a cheque made out to MD & MP Cloake. Overseas people are best to pay in cash at the reunion. Any surplus funds will be donated to charity.

Bus Trip
The bus trip will retrace Bertie and Arthur Cloakes’ early days around rural South Canterbury including the Mackenzie high-country. Commentary will be given about their lives and other places of historic, geographic and scenic interest during the 425 kilometer trip. Comfort/refreshment stops will be made along the way including extra time at Tekapo for sightseeing and opportunity to buy own lunch.
Cost: NZ$35 per adult/child.
Sunday Evening Dinner
The buffet dinner will be at the Landing Service Building, Historic Place, George St., Timaru. Dress will be casual and music will play in the background. Wine and refreshments will be available at normal bar prices.

As there are no major events in Timaru this Easter it is understood a wide range of accommodation is available.
